Quality Tourism Services’ (QTS) Inc. delivers programs and services designed to assist and support the tourism industry in Prince Edward Island, as well as quality assurance programs for consumers of the province’s tourism products and services.
The organization’s primary focus is to improve the quality standards for accommodation properties, camping properties, and trailer and RV rentals across the Island. QTS’ services help ensure that acceptable standard of tourism product and service is available to the travelling public, and to assist sub-standard tourism products and services to improve an acceptable level of quality demanded by today’s consumers.

Accommodation / Camping Product Inspections
QTS provides inspections to all existing tourist establishments as per provincial legislation (PEI Tourism Industry Act & Regulations), conducts necessary re-inspections, and works with new and potential operators to become licensed accommodation / camping providers.
Atlantic Canada Tourism Experience
Canada and Camping Select continue to be important tools for PEI operators to communicate quality assurance to existing and potential guests. ACTE programs include: Canada Select, Camping Select, Cyclists Welcome, Motorcyclists Welcome, Pets Welcome, Green Destination, and Quality Assured.
Water Quality Assistance Program
Quarterly water testing is a fundamental licensing requirement. The Water Quality Assistance Program educates operators regarding proper maintenance procedures and well construction; and helps operators when a tourist establishment experiences water quality challenges.
Accessibility is an education for many business owners, and is becoming recognized as a valuable and attainable program for all types of business. QTS continues to work closely with operators to ensure PEI’s tourism industry reaps the benefits of this growth market.
Information Requests and New Operators
QTS provides information to hundreds of public inquiries as well as potential tourism accommodation providers. There is perhaps no other industry where a new entrant receives a professional training session from a qualified inspector included in the licence application fee.
In accordance with the Tourism Act and Regulations, QTS and Tourism PEI respond to any complaints received during the year. The complaints mainly deal with cleanliness and state of repair, but can extend to service type complaints.
As Quality Tourism Services evolves the organization will continue to develop quality assurance programs.
The governance structure works well with board composition representing industry sectors, and QTS Inc. creates an arm’s length relationship between Industry and Government. This separation mitigates any potential interference when enforcing regulations, and makes Industry led decisions based on Industry input.
